Dockwise Yacht Transport’s (DYT) trademark bright orange semi-submersible yacht transport ship, the Super Servant 3, will arrive in Brisbane on or around January 25, 2011.
The Australian yacht market is very buoyant at present due to the strong Australian dollar. Being market leader, DYT is working hard to service the South Pacific market for yacht transportation in relation to this large influx of yacht movements.”
Super Servant 3, 456 feet (139 meters) in length and operating on a regular schedule to deliver yachts around the world, will look something like a giant moving marina when it comes to town. By “sinking” its dock bay, it will safely float off its cargo of yachts. Captains, owners and crew members will be aboard the vessels during disembarkment, ready to take them by their own power on to new adventures.
It’s an amazing process, and no other shipping company has this ability to deliver boats in such a manner.” Nevertheless, for clients who want a more flexibleboat transport schedule or those who want to explore destinations where the float-on/float-off ships aren’t scheduled to go, DYT orchestrates lift-on/lift-off arrangements with the carriers of Sevenstar Yacht Transport.
“With both services combined, we have created a very strong DYT yacht logistics product that is being utilized by many yacht owners and manufacturers and continues to be a leader in the market,”
The yacht shipping vessel, Super Servant 3, departed Port Everglades in early December, 2010, and will have made stops in St. Thomas (USVI), Golfito (Costa Rica) and Papeete (French Polynesia) before arriving in Brisbane. From Brisbane, it will head to Auckland and return to Port Everglades (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) in late February, via Ensenada (Mexico).
DYT’s second South Pacific “float-on/float-off” yacht transport voyage of the year will begin in Port Everglades in early July, with stops in Golfito (early/mid July), Brisbane (early August), Auckland (mid August), and head back via Ensenada (mid September) to Port Everglades (early October) in time for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
This particular voyage is ideal for those who want to attend the Rugby World Cup which takes place in Wellington, New Zealand, in August, 2011.
In addition, DYT has scheduled these new voyages via the lift-on, lift-off method:
Loading in March and April, 2011: Antwerp (Belgium) or Rotterdam (The Netherlands) to Genoa (Italy), then to Brisbane (Australia) and Wellington (New Zealand)
Loading in May and June, 2011:
North Adriatic to Augusta and Brisbane (Australia) and Wellington (New Zealand)
Loading in May, 2011:
Phuket (Thailand) to Genoa (Italy)
About Dockwise Yacht Transport
Dockwise Yacht Transport (DYT), headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, specializes in the maritime transport of private luxury yachts and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Dockwise Ltd., a Bermuda incorporated company that is the leading marine contractor providing total transport services to the offshore, onshore and yachting industries as well as installation services of extremely heavy offshore platforms.
Dockwise owns a total of four yacht carriers including the 686-foot (209 meter) super ship Yacht Express. The ships use the unique float-on/float-off loading method that allows yachts of any size to be safely floated on and off as cargo. The carriers submerge themselves by pumping nine million gallons of water into their ballast tanks; the vessels are floated into place one-by-one, then sea-fastened before the ship pumps dry to prepare for boat transport. The process is reversed to allow the yachts to safely disembark once they reach their final destinations.
DYT's global yacht transport routes for its semi-submersibles include the U.S. East Coast (Newport, Rhode Island and Port Everglades, Florida), the Mediterranean (Toulon, France; Genoa and Taranto, Italy; Marmaris, Turkey; Palma de Mallorca, Spain), the Bahamas (Freeport), the Caribbean (St. Thomas and Martinique), the Pacific West Coast (Golfito, Costa Rica; La Paz and Ensenada, Mexico; and Vancouver, B.C., Canada) and the South Pacific (Papeete, Tahiti; Auckland, New Zealand; and Brisbane, Australia).
Even though its schedule with the semi-submersible yacht carriers regularly covers main harbors around the world, as well as more unique destinations, DYT recognizes that it can’t meet every demand for location or timing with its own ships. Therefore, the company is also active in the lift-on/lift-off market, offering the same professionalism and attention to detail in servicing this alternative method of yacht transportation to clients who need additional scheduling flexibility or the ability to get to destinations not normally serviced by DYT’s semi-submersible ships.
Since its maiden voyage in 1987, the company has transported over 11,000 motor and sailing yachts to various destinations around the globe, offering owners and charterers safe and easy access to many of the world’s premier cruising grounds. Along with area representatives around the globe, DYT has additional operating offices in Italy, Martinique and Newport (R.I.).

Precious Cargo of Luxury Yachts returns to South Florida
Every October at Port Everglades, one of the most active cargo ports in the United States, Dockwise Yacht Transport (DYT) reminds the world that its semi-submersible ships are among the most extraordinary in the world, and the cargo they carry is as precious as any delivered around the globe by the thousands of ships that pass through there. This year, not one but two Dockwise ships, the 686-foot (209-meter) Yacht Express and the smaller 555.93-foot (169.49-meter) Super Servant 4, will follow in succession to the South Florida destination, having loaded in Genoa, Italy, and Palma de Mallorca, Spain, respectively. The cargo they carry—over 3,708.34 linear feet of luxury yachts—are worth a combined $358,475,000 USD and will either disembark at this Ft. Lauderdale stopover or carry on with DYT to other drop-off points in the U.S. and the Caribbean.
According to Graeme Lord from Fairport Yacht Support in Ft. Lauderdale, shipping his client’s prized possession, the 136-foot (41.45 meter) M/Y Lagniappe, safely across the Atlantic takes lots of expertise, starting with his own in knowing who to trust. Lord has come to depend on DYT’s dedicated service to yacht transport in arranging bookings of anywhere from five to eight yachts a year for the last 15 years. That’s 50-100 yachts, he says, that he has either been involved with as a crew member or, more recently, as a “bookings and negotiations” coordinator for his own yacht support business.
“There are plenty of ships without fixed schedules or published ports of call, which will pick up any cargo, including yachts, but this leaves too much to the shipping company’s discretion as far as which route it takes and how long it takes to get there,” said Lord. “And there are ships that do stick to schedules but don’t have the personnel with the knowledge of DYT’s loading masters, engineers and crews.”
Most important to Lord is the way in which the yachts in his charge are loaded and off-loaded. DYT’s de-ballasting process allows sea water to flood each ship’s dock bay, giving it a marina-like appearance as yachts safely motor out the back and on to new adventures. The process is reversed for loading, with scuba divers securing the yachts with sea fasteners before the water leaves the “marina. “In all those shipments with DYT, I’ve never had anything even remotely that resembles any damage, but I’ve had problems in the past with other shipping companies where they show up to lift a yacht and they don’t have the right lifting gear. It’s a struggle; you don’t just go down to the hardware store and buy that lifting gear.”
While the Yacht Express and Super Servant 4 are DYT’s own ships that have regular routes and utilize the float-on/float-off process that is unique to its fleet, the company can also oversee lift-on/lift-off services for yachts on other cargo ships if the need for meeting a schedule or delivering to a remote destination so demands it. Lord, who explained that M/Y Lagniappe is privately owned but charters in the Mediterranean, the U.S. and the Caribbean, said that in all cases, it simply makes sense to use a company that specializes only in the transport of yachts. “They understand the process right from the first phone call. Their loading master, their stevedores, all these behind-the-scenes people, they know what they are doing. We want to get the yacht from point A to point B at a reasonable cost, but as important, on a predetermined timeline. Especially with a charter yacht like M/Y Lagniappe, a delay or damage could result in us missing a charter.”
M/Y Lagniappe, which in Creole means “something extra,” lives up to its name by providing charter guests with the very best luxury, amenities and service, including accommodations for 10 in five exquisitely appointed staterooms with private baths. Among its many features is a sun deck with Jacuzzi and fixed sun beds. The yacht will arrive on the Super Servant 4 with 19 other yachts, of which eight are also over 100 feet. A total of 14 yachts will off-load at Port Everglades. The Super Servant 4 will then deliver the remaining yachts to Newport and St. Thomas prior to heading back to Palma de Mallorca; it returns to Port Everglades via Martinique and then begins its voyage Down Under via Golfito (Costa Rica), Brisbane (AU) and Auckland (NZ), before returning to Port Everglades via Golfito in mid-March, 2013.
Captain Steve Hilton of Monaco also has been utilizing the services of DYT for 15 years, and his current command, the M/Y Bad Girl, at 186 feet (56.7 meters), will be the largest among 18 vessels aboard DYT’s Yacht Express, which trumps DYT’s other ships in the fleet not only in size but in its purpose-built extras such as accommodations for crews crossing with their yachts and amenities such as a pool and theater. “This is the fourth crossing for M/Y Bad Girl with DYT; it’s a commercial yacht for charter that could normally cross on its own bottom, but with the rising cost of fuel and maintenance on the engines, it makes more sense to ship with DYT,” said Captain Hilton. “They are the best professionals in the business, and they’ve done more volume.”
M/Y Bad Girl, which sleeps 12 and boasts an air-conditioned limousine tender and an array of toys including wave runners, kayaks and kite surfing gear, splits her time between the Med and the Caribbean, with stops in the Bahamas where Captain Hilton says her shallow draft allows her to explore areas traditionally suited to smaller boats
.
After Yacht Express offloads M/Y Bad Girl and the other yachts, it will then add a few yachts before heading back to Genoa where it will become flush again with a full load. The ship will sail to Martinique, then back to Genoa and complete two more round trips to Port Everglades before undergoing routine maintenance and beginning again in spring to take yachts back to the Mediterranean for the busy charter and cruising season there.

Dockwise Yacht Transport Services Storied Destinations Around the World
Whether transporting 50-foot sport fishing boats or 250-foot luxury yachts, Dockwise Yacht Transport (DYT) and its fleet of semi-submersible ships give clients access to many of the world’s major shipping ports, which in turn lead to some of the most desirable travel destinations around the globe.
In early February, DYT’s 556-foot (169.49 meter) Super Servant 4 started its annual passage to Brisbane (Australia) and Auckland (New Zealand), a sailing that originated in Palma de Mallorca in late November, 2012. Having stopped in Le Marin (Martinique), Port Everglades (Florida) and Golfito (Costa Rica) on its way to the South Pacific, the semi-submersible ship, which “sinks” to load and unload its floating yacht cargo, is now enroute to Golfito and will return to Port Everglades before it goes transatlantic.
Currently aboard Super Servant 4 is Glen Kerunsky’s (Calgary, Canada) 64-foot (19.66-meter) motor yacht Mystery Ship, with which Kerunsky has cruised the South Pacific for the last three-and-a-half years.
“The last time we used Dockwise was in 2008, to ship our boat from Long Beach to Vancouver,” said Kerunsky. “We cruised Mystery Ship all the way down to the South Pacific from Canada, but if we could do the trip again, we would start by shipping the boat on Dockwise to Auckland and begin our trip there. The country is a must-see, and there are so many friendly people.”
Kerunsky and his wife Cindy enjoy scuba diving but they like to discover each of their new destinations both by sea and by land. After they had exhausted their options in New Zealand, they cruised north to Tonga and then west to Fiji where they did more diving. The next stop was the Vanuatu Islands.
“It is a very friendly place,” said Kerunsky. “All of these places make you feel like you are stepping back in time, and it’s great because many of the islands are so remote that many tourists cannot get to them.” After exploring the Vanuatu, the couple cruised to New Caledonia, and from there it was a four-day run to Australia. In Australia, they explored the coastline and dove the Great Barrier Reef before cruising south to Brisbane to ship their boat.
“Dockwise is timely, easy to work with, and there is always a representative to talk to,” said Kerunsky, acknowledging that when things go like clockwork, it’s easier for yacht owners to pursue the wilder of their dreams. In fact, when Mystery Ship arrives in the port town of Golfito, located on the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica, the Kerunskys plan to continue their adventure, taking excursions up and down the Costa Rican coastline and into Panama, Nicaragua and El Salvador before they cruise to Mexico and then head home to Canada by the summer of 2014. “We’re looking forward to hiking through the rain forest in Costa Rica and getting into the whole rhythm of the countries we visit, experiencing the food and meeting the people.”
According to Jason Roberts, president of Aurora Global Logistics and DYT's agent in Australia, Brisbane is an especially attractive port for both big game fishermen and those cruising on sailing or power yachts. “Australia’s east coast is a major draw for fishing, especially Far North Queensland, where anglers from all over the world come, hoping to catch a 1,000 pound Marlin and win the Port Douglas Marlin Challenge,” said Roberts. “As for superyachts, they can head north to the Great Barrier Reef or south to French Polynesia.” (DYT also directly services Papeete, Tahiti.)
After Super Servant 4 stopped in Brisbane, it picked up additional yachts in Auckland, including the Auckland-based VvS1, a 111.32-foot (33.94-meter) motor yacht ultimately destined for Palma Mallorca.
“I’ve loaded previous boats on Dockwise for transatlantic voyages, so I knew the process,” said Andy Grocott (Auckland, New Zealand), who has been the captain of VvS1 for over six years. “Dockwise is reliable, on schedule, and the timing of the departure from Auckland has us arriving in Palma in good time for the Mediterranean charter season.”
Grocott explained that VvS1 was built at Alloy Yachts in Auckland and the boat has returned to the region the past six summers, “because it has a great marine infrastructure with marinas, shipyards, technicians, yacht agents and excellent cruising grounds.” He added that VvS1 spends the winters cruising the South Pacific – French Polynesia, Tonga, Wallis, Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Queensland. “The owner, who has listed the boat for sale, is looking for new places to go, and when VvS1 arrives in Palma de Mallorca it will spend a few weeks there before heading to the south of France and then Turkey to begin its cruising season,” said Grocott. “VvS1 is capable of making the trip to the Med on her own bottom, but the time it would take, plus the cost of fuel and wear and tear on the vessel, makes transportation by Dockwise a better option.”
Float-on/Float-off
Super Servant 4 is one of DYT’s owned and operated “float-on/float-off” yacht carriers. It uses a unique de-ballasting process that allows seawater to flood the ship’s dock bay to a draft required by the yachts to safely motor in from the stern of the ship. When the yachts are over their assigned positions and touch the wooden cribbing or rubber mat, divers place temporary supports upright as the ship slowly rises from the water until the deck is dry and the ship’s crew can begin the docking operation. With its cargo secure, the DYT ship leaves for its next destination, a veritable moving marina.
The company is also able to coordinate lift-on/lift-off voyages onboard third-party cargo ships when needing to service additional ports of call. In fact, to keep up with the adventurous appetites of its clients, DYT has confirmed an upcoming voyage that will commence in Singapore in mid- to late March and stop in Phuket (Thailand) and Malta along the way, with a final destination of Genoa (Italy) at the end of April.

With additional lift-on/lift-off offerings, DYT has serviced the following ports: Dubai (UAE), Genoa and Livorno (Italy), Hong Kong (China), Jacksonville and West Palm Beach (Florida), Marmaris (Turkey), Palma de Mallorca (Spain), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Rotterdam (The Netherlands), Phuket and Singapore (Thailand), Portland (Australia), Salalah (Oman) and Southampton (UK).
Since its maiden voyage in 1987, the company has transported over 12,000 motor and sailing yachts to various destinations around the globe, offering owners and charterers safe and easy access to many of the world’s premier cruising grounds. Along with area representatives around the globe, DYT has additional operating offices in Italy, Martinique and Newport (R.I.).

Dockwise Yacht Transport Readies for Busy Season
As the seasonal migration of superyachts begins in late August from the Mediterranean to the wintertime cruising grounds of the Caribbean and South Florida, Dockwise Yacht Transport (DYT), operating for 26 years in the yacht transport industry, is gearing up for a busy season. Recent bookings include the most valued superyacht the experienced company has ever transported, the new 214-foot m/y Galactica Star, built by Heesen, which has booked a round trip from Genoa, Italy to Martinique this fall and from Port Everglades back to Genoa in spring 2014. While Dockwise has the capability to ship yachts from 30 feet to more than 200 feet, it regularly ships those in the 120-foot to 165-foot range, mainly to and from the Mediterranean.
There are two ways for a yacht to make its way across an ocean: on its own keel or docked safely aboard a transport vessel. The expense of having a yacht shipped by a qualified yacht transporter typically is outweighed by the substantial insurance requirements and costly wear and tear of a long sea journey. DYT is the only yacht transport company with semi-submersible ships, also known as float on float off, a method that is much less stressful on yachts than being hoisted by crane. In addition, these unique yacht carriers are equipped with 14.1 meter (46.25 feet) dock walls which protect the yachts from the elements while underway.
To and From the Mediterranean
The company is headquartered in Fort Lauderdale and operates in the most popular global cruising areas, including Newport, Rhode Island and the Caribbean, Italy, France, Spain, Turkey, Costa Rica, Australia and New Zealand. As summer sojourns in the Mediterranean end and megayachts depart for warmer winter destinations, Dockwise runs a total of seven sailings originating in the Mediterranean, from Genoa, Italy or Palma de Mallorca, Spain and calling on ports in either the Caribbean or Port Everglades, Florida. The return to the Mediterranean for the spring/summer cruising season begins with voyages in March 2014. Another boat transport in early November picks up boats in Newport and unloads them in St. Thomas, and another annual voyage commences in Palma de Mallorca in November, stops in Martinique, Port Everglades, and then Golfito, Costa Rica in December before proceeding “Down Under” via Brisbane, Australia and Auckland, New Zealand and returning via the same ports.
“Our ships fill up quickly because we hold the client service bar so high,” said Catalina Bujor, marketing officer for Dockwise Yacht Transport. “We deliver flawless service to some of the most demanding clients in the world—most of which are repeat clients—and it is these high standards that distinguish our company from the rest.”
Semisubmersible Ships
Unlike other yacht transport companies that often are freight forwarding operations, Dockwise Yacht Transport owns its fleet of semi-submersible ships and therefore has total control, allowing for strict adherence to shipping schedules, safety and care standards. Each client is guided through the shipping process by teams that are professionally trained for this type of yacht transport who are dedicated to, and experienced with, the company’s specific method of shipping. Freight includes cradles, basic customs clearance fees in both departing and arriving ports, excellent insurance coverage, and expert assistance during loading and unloading.

NAO Victoria's Adventures Continue With a Transatlantic Voyage Aboard DYT's Super Servant 4
While observing yachts onboard ships can be an amazing sight, even Captain Jack Sparrow would have been impressed watching the historic replica of Ferdinand Magellan’s galleon, NAO Victoria, sail onboard DYT Yacht Transport’s semi-submersible yacht carrier, Super Servant 4, in Palma de Mallorca, Spain on November 28. Dedicated to yacht transport of yachts of all sizes, DYT is best known for its fleet of unique ships that submerge to a draft required by the yachts loading to safely and easily sail on and off. Upon her arrival in Port Everglades, Fla. mid-December, the 25.9-meter (85-foot) carrack will sail to St. Augustine for the Christmas holiday before beginning a cultural exhibition tour that will take her along the coast of Florida and up the US East Coast to educate the public about the first complete circumnavigation of the world by Magellan’s expedition in the 16th Century.
Leave Nothing to Chance
“Although she can sail perfectly on her own keel, she would take nearly two months to get from Spain to Florida, so we decided to ship her to reduce the voyage time,” said Eduardo Almagro Blanco, the general manager for Fundacion NAO Victoria, the Spanish not-for-profit foundation that manages NAO Victoria along with El Galeon, another historic Spanish replica. He added that the organization chose DYT based on its credentials, unique float-on/float-off loading method, and timely schedule.
Paving the Way
The original NAO Victoria, launched in 1519, was one of five ships in the Portuguese explorer’s Spanish expedition to discover the passage between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans known as the Strait of Magellan. After his death and under the command of Juan Sebastian Elcano, it became the first ship in history to complete the 32,000-mile voyage in 1522 and the first ever to successfully circumnavigate the globe. In 1570, the original ship disappeared without a trace during a treacherous storm while underway from the Antilles to Seville.
Not All Who Wander Are Lost
The replica of the NAO Victoria was built for the Universal Exposition of Seville in 1992. Directed by Ignacio Fernandez Vial, extensive research and in-depth analysis was conducted on 164 written and iconographic documents from different Spanish historical archives, 126 drawings and engravings, 22 affidavits, 18 treaties on naval construction, and three wrecks. “Florida residents and visitors are eager to participate in the unique experiences that the vessels from the NAO Victoria Foundation have to offer,” commented Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner, continuing to say “the overall cultural, historical and tourism benefit is exceptional.”
In Good Hands
With excellent safety standards and an experienced staff behind the operation, DYT’s Super Servant 4 will complete the delivery of NAO Victoria from Palma de Mallorca to Port Everglades, Fla. in only two weeks.

DYT Yacht Transport Appoints New Agents in Australia
In its new partnership with Sevenstar Yacht Transport, DYT has gained access to Sevenstar’s network of agents in Australia and now has a presence in Brisbane, Fremantle, Melbourne, Newcastle, Port Kembla and Sydney.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (December 18, 2013) – In an effort to strengthen and streamline its network, DYT Yacht Transport (DYT), headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has appointed Sevenstar Yacht Transport-Australia as its new agents servicing the Australian market. DYT is the premier yacht transport company dedicated to shipping yachts to popular cruising destinations worldwide and the only provider of float-on, float off yacht transport service onboard its semi-submersible vessels. Sevenstar Yacht Transport is the leading provider of yacht transportation services to a multitude of exotic cruising destinations worldwide offered on a lift-on, lift-off basis and utilizes its own fleet of over 120 ships. The new partnership has allowed DYT to gain access to Sevenstar Yacht Transport’s large network of agents and its acclaimed fleet of cargo vessels traveling worldwide, thus enabling DYT to offer its clients an even larger range of shipping options.
DYT’s upcoming voyage, which commenced in Palma de Mallorca (Spain) in November aboard the semi-submersible yacht carrier Super Servant 4, will call on Le Marin (Martinique), Port Everglades (Fla.), and Golfito (Costa Rica) in December and January before reaching its target in Brisbane (Australia); she will then return to the Mediterranean viaAuckland (New Zealand), followed by the aforementioned port calls, and will arrive in Spain in due time for the Med spring/summer cruising season.
Sevenstar Yacht Transport, Australia, led by Dean Sharples, a familiar figure to many in the maritime industry, remains available to DYT and its clients to assist with their yacht transport requirements while in the area. “We are delighted to include DYT, with its highly rated float-on, float-off yacht transport service, as our partner,” says Sharples. “In combination with our lift-on, lift off specialty we can now offer the complete suite to clients.”
Shipping a yacht may not be a captain’s natural choice, as they have a passion for sailing the ocean blue; but practically speaking, it saves yacht owners wear and tear on their precious possessions and helps preserve their yacht resale value down the road. Cost-wise, it is comparable to sailing a vessel on its own keel, without all the follow-up hassle and added expense of maintenance required after a long ocean passage.

Titans Of Yacht Transport Partner To Serve The World
Now that the partnership between leading yacht transport companies DYT Yacht Transport and Sevenstar Yacht Transport has been finalized, it’s great news for yacht owners who, by choice or necessity, depend on the shipping of their prized possessions to various ports around the world. The two companies, while maintaining their separate identities, are fully equipped to advise on the best options for either float-on/float-off (FLO/FLO) or lift-on/lift-off (LO/LO) services offered by a fleet of over 120 ships that are wholly owned and operated by parent company the Spliethoff Group, one of the largest ship owners in The Netherlands, which plays a major role in the global transport market.
“The partnership makes all the sense in the world,” said Richard Klabbers, Sevenstar’s managing director. He explained that DYT’s two ships—Yacht Express and Super Servant 4—are the world’s only dedicated yacht transport ships that can submerge their dock bays for easy FLO/FLO entry and exit of yachts on their own keels and are assigned primarily to the safe and expeditious transport of yachts across the Atlantic Ocean. Sevenstar’s expansive global routes, which have been serviced by Spliethoff’s LO/LO carriers since 1987– the same year that DYT performed its first yacht transport operations under the name Dock Express – offer yacht owners unlimited access to just about any travel destination in the world.
“By keeping the two trusted brands intact, we will continue to give our customers understandable choices,” Klabbers continued. “A charter boat owner has to be in the Caribbean or the Med by a certain date and back to the U.S. by another; a game fishing enthusiast needs to be at a tournament in Costa Rica; a cruising couple wants to start a ‘round-the-world adventure in the South Pacific – every situation for every yacht owner is different. Whatever the need and no matter which of our offices or agents they call, they will be expertly advised on the best way to safely transport their yacht.”
A team of experienced loading masters constantly travels the globe to orchestrate the loading and unloading of yachts entrusted to DYT and Sevenstar. “Better a specially trained professional to handle such precious cargo as multi-million dollar yachts,” explained Klabbers, who added that DYT and Sevenstar agents also are strategically posted around the world to advise and handle logistics for yacht owners once bookings have been decided. He cautioned that some companies in the yacht transport business that operate as “freight forwarders” are not equipped with the understanding and knowledge required to ship yachts. This can lead to a yacht being stuck in port when its proposed ride is detained, doesn’t exist, or the costs are not fully disclosed to the yacht owner. “Our business is about getting the yachts to their destinations safe, sound and hassle-free. All insurance work and port clearances are completed in advance by our agents. All loading, unloading, cradling and fastening of yachts is overseen by our loading masters.”
Other benefits of transporting with DYT and Sevenstar are less wear and tear on yachts; time off for crew during transport; less time required for delivery; and new horizons to explore.
“There are so many fabulous cruising destinations worldwide,” said Klabbers, “and with our help, one could possibly reach them all in a lifetime.”

DYT Yacht Transport Lends Helping Hand to Dismasted Yacht in Transat AG2R La Mondiale
Super Servant 4, one of the ships in DYT Yacht Transport’s fleet of yacht transporters, diverted six miles from its course to Saint Thomas to assist racing sailors Thierry Chabagny and Erwan Tabarly aboard their dismasted yacht Gedimat, which had radioed the ship for help on Tuesday, April 23. The 32-foot Figaro Beneteau II is competing in the Transat AG2R La Mondiale, a 3890-mile double-handed race that began on April 6 from France and is due to finish at the French Caribbean island of Saint Barthelemy.
Gedimat had dismasted during a gale and its diesel had run dry as the vessel tried to reach the island of Madeira, a Portuguese archipelago 250 miles north of the Canary Islands in the North Atlantic. With no reported injuries or problems with health aboard Gedimat, Super Servant 4 – which was 180 miles west of Madeira at the time of the call – proceeded to divert and deliver two drums with 20 liters of diesel in each, to Gedimat. The two drums were thrown into the water, connected to a third empty drum with a light. The crew was successful in bringing the drums aboard with no additional assistance in the 20-knot breezes and two-meter swells.
Gedimat was leading the fleet at the time of the rig failure and had approximately 1900 miles to go to reach Saint Barthelemy. In an email, the co-skippers wrote:
"The Super Servant diverted and threw two jerry cans of 20 liters. This should be enough for us to reach Madeira with ETA Friday (April 25) afternoon. The conditions are not ideal for drive motor (sea headwind ), but progress is still a small 5 knots. The idea is to refuel in Madeira and to proceed to Lagos (Portugal) in the wake where a carrier is waiting for us. Thank you. Until soon. Chab & Tab."
Late last year, DYT Yacht Transport partnered with another leading yacht transport company, Sevenstar Yacht Transport, which has been good news for yacht owners who, by choice or necessity, depend on the shipping of their prized possessions to various ports around the world.

Sevenstar and DYT: Gold Sponsors of Bisbee’s Black & Blue Marlin Tournament
Sevenstar Yacht Transport and sister company DYT Yacht Transport, the two most prolific yacht transport companies in the world, have announced that they will jointly sponsor the 34th annual Bisbee’s Black & Blue Marlin Tournament in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico this October 21-25. The gold-level sponsorship complements Sevenstar Yacht Transport’s lift-on/lift-off sailings to La Paz from Palm Beach (via Golfito) and Victoria, Canada (via Ensenada) that coincide time-wise with the tournament. DYT Yacht Transport also services Golfito with a float-on/float-off voyage aboard Yacht Express, loading in Le Marin (Martinique) and Port Everglades (Florida) in November; it then sails to Papeete (Tahiti), Brisbane (Australia) and Auckland (New Zealand).
Considered the “Super Bowl of Billfishing,” the “Black & Blue” was started in 1981 and has grown from six teams with a purse of $10,000 to more than 150 teams with millions of dollars on the line. It consists of five days of hard-core fishing and camaraderie for approximately 1500 like-minded competitors coming from all 50 United States and over 15 countries world-wide. With the lively city of Cabo San Lucas as the backdrop, thousands of people crowd the marina walkways of Puerto Paraiso Entertainment Plaza to watch huge black or blue marlin weighed in at the scales, making it a once-in-a-lifetime experience for spectators as well as participants.
“In America alone, there are 44.3 million anglers, and in our family of clients, we already have a large number of sport fishing enthusiasts who count on us to get their boats safely to their favorite fishing grounds,” said Richard Klabbers, Sevenstar’s managing director, adding that the company’s recently announced West Coast representative Kris Caren will be working closely with Lauren Hartman from the Sevenstar USA Agencies in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida to provide quick rate quotes and oversee the loading and discharging operations. “We want those who have not used us before to understand what their options are for reaching the Los Cabos region of the Baja Peninsula and, for that matter, other prime fishing destinations.”
Having announced their partnership earlier this year, Sevenstar Yacht Transport and DYT Yacht Transport offer lift-on/lift-off and float-on/float-off services by a fleet of over 125 ships wholly owned and operated by Amsterdam-based parent company Spliethoff Group.

Joining an Urgent Mission to Save the Oceans
Lots of interesting vessels have been floated on and off DYT Yacht Transport’s semi-submersible ships, but none have been so intriguing as the 126-foot research vessel M/V OCEARCH, which is currently making its way from Port Everglades, Florida to Brisbane, Australia onboard DYT’s 686’ flagship Yacht Express. The research vessel is the namesake of the non-profit organization OCEARCH, which is globally recognized for its work in the field of ocean sustainability. DYT has partnered with the organization to support its study of sharks and other large predators that are essential to the future of the marine ecosystem. This marks the second time Yacht Express has called on Brisbane and Auckland since its launch in 2007.
The M/V OCEARCH, powered by two Cat engines and three Cat generators, features an at-sea laboratory and custom-built 75,000 pound capacity research platform that can lift a 5,000 pound shark along with a team of scientists and crew – with one degree of list, conditions permitting.
“By moving OCEARCH around the world, DYT is helping the ocean recover faster, and that is critical if we want to successfully accomplish our mission,” said Chris Fischer (Park City), founder and expedition leader of OCEARCH. “If we were to drive the vessel to Australia ourselves, it would take us 60 days and our people and equipment would be totally taxed. The gift that DYT is giving to Australia by delivering OCEARCH there is one that affects every person who loves the ocean and uses the beaches. We hope this marks the first voyage of many with them.”
DYT’s PR/Marketing Officer Catalina Bujor added, “DYT Yacht Transport recognizes the importance of the research done by OCEARCH and is proud to be able to support the organization in conducting its work.”
OCEARCH’s upcoming trip to Australia will mark its 21st expedition. “They have a public safety issue there as well as a conservation challenge, so our goal is to capture and tag as many tiger sharks as possible,” said Fischer. “That way we can find out where and when they are moving, and where and when they are breeding and giving birth.”
Fischer founded OCEARCH in 2008, after eight years and 180 TV episodes of ESPN’s Offshore Adventures. “We were one of the most watched outdoor TV shows at the time, but I began to see that there was a huge disconnect between the knowledge of professional mariners and world-class scientists,” said Fischer. Because of this, we simply didn’t have the fundamental data we needed on sharks, marlin, tuna and various other species to understand how to manage them sustainably and make sure that there were fish for future generations from now.”
Wanting to make a global impact on the future of the ocean, Fischer began coordinating OCEARCH expeditions that, for the first time in history, brought together fishermen and scientists to tag great whites, tiger sharks and various other species so they could be tracked and their migration patterns studied. Once a shark is tagged, anyone anywhere in the world can follow it in near real-time using OCEARCH’s Global Shark Tracker.
“Sharks are the lions of the ocean; they are the balance keepers, and if we lose them there won’t be any fish,” Fischer added. “Over 200,000 sharks will be killed today, mostly for a bowl of shark fin soup in China. While groups like WildAid drive down demand in countries like this, we are pioneering on-the-water research to create never-captured-before data so we know how to affect policy to help populations recover. DYT is allowing us to be a lot more mobile and enable more scientists to work with more sharks in a shorter period of time.”
The OCEARCH team will begin its research Down Under in early 2015.
The Process
On December 10, 2014, M/V OCEARCH floated onto Yacht Express, taking her place among other large yachts along the starboard side of the ship’s huge dock bay, for her ride to Australia. To secure M/V OCEARCH, keel blocks were laid out on Yacht Express’s dry deck first, with stanchions and sea stands moved into place alongside. Yacht Express then was “ballasted,” submerging the dock bay so it could flood with sea water, and M/V OCEARCH motored into her pre-determined location and tied off, per the instructions of the DYT Loading Master. Deballasting began when all yachts were onboard, essentially lifting the dock bay of Yacht Express while divers ensured M/V OCEARCH and the other yacht cargo were positioned accurately. When the operation was completed, the deck was dry, the sea stanchions were secured, and M/V OCEARCH was ready for its oceanic voyage.
In combination with its sister company Sevenstar Yacht Transport, which offers lift-on/lift-off services, DYT Yacht Transport advises on the best options for yacht transport by a fleet of over 120 ships wholly owned and operated by parent company Spliethoff Group, one of the largest ship owners in The Netherlands.

Seeing Double? How to Treat and Prevent Double Vision
In a rare occurrence last week, DYT Yacht Transport’s two semi-submersible ships pulled into Port Everglades (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) simultaneously to load $350 million worth of yachts bound for the Mediterranean Sea.
With busy sailing schedules to worldwide destinations, it is unusual for the 556-foot M/V Super Servant 4 and the 686-foot M/V Yacht Express to be seen in close proximity to each other, much less in the same port doubling up on the fascinating process by which they float private luxury yachts into their cargo bays.
“Fort Lauderdale has been the western hemisphere’s home base for operations in the yachting industry for decades,” said DYT’s Jeff Last,” and it is here where yachts, small and large, spend time between busy charter seasons. April thru June are the prime time for yachts to take the journey across the pond in order to reach the Mediterranean’s cruising grounds in time for peak season.”
This special DYT double shipment includes a total of 39 yachts with lengths ranging from 30-200 feet. The two fully-loaded ships left Port Everglades on May 22nd and are scheduled for drop- offs in Genoa, Italy, Taranto, Italy, and Palma De Mallorca, Spain during the second week of June.
M/V Super Servant 4 and M/V Yacht Express are the only semi-submersible vessels in the world specifically engineered for yacht transportation. These unique vessels submerge, transforming into a marina where professional yacht captains and crew are able to dock their owners’ prized possessions safely and with no hassle. DYT then de-ballasts the vessel to have the yachts rest on secured supports, effectively allowing for transportation of the yachts while on a floating dry-dock complete with power and water hookups. The “float-on” process is then reversed for an equally safe “float-off” delivery of the yachts at their desired destinations.
Since 1987, DYT Yacht Transport, based in Fort Lauderdale and a member of the Dutch shipping company Spliethoff Group, has delivered over 13,150 motor and sailing yachts to various destinations around the globe.

DYT Yacht Transport Schedules its Largest Yacht Carrier for Trip to South Pacific
New policies making it easier for foreign-flagged vessels to explore the coastlines of Australia have inspired DYT Yacht Transport (DYT) to schedule its largest semi-submersible yacht carrier, the 686-foot (209-metre) Yacht Express, to deliver yachts to the South Pacific. The trip coordinates with the end of the Mediterranean charter season, starting in Genoa (Italy) in November to accommodate private luxury yachts and charter vessels departing from the Mediterranean Sea. Operating with its unique float-on/float-off method, the ship will make additional port calls in the Caribbean, Florida, Costa Rica, and Tahiti before arriving in Sydney and Auckland by the end of January.
“Australia has eased its permit restrictions for charter yachts,” said DYT’s Laura Tempest, “which opens up more opportunities for enjoying the South Pacific’s remote and pristine cruising grounds. This, combined with a growing marine industry infrastructure in both Australia and New Zealand, makes it a logical decision for DYT to send its largest ship to that part of the world to take care of increased demand.”
The first-phase change to the “Coastal Trading Act 2012” will allow for cruising of non-Australian flagged charter yachts in Australia. For a fee of $400.00, the yacht will be issued a temporary voyage-based charter license for up to 12 months. During these 12 months, refits and repairs will be allowed without the need to import the vessel.
“For GST and charter licenses, our Australian agents are well established to ensure this is handled properly,” said Tempest. “Our in-house customs brokerage service can assist in meeting the necessary requirements.”
DYT, the industry leader in semi-submersible yacht transport, introduced Yacht Express as the world’s first purpose-built yacht carrier in 2007. Yacht Express and Super Servant 4 service the South Pacific, Caribbean, and Mediterranean Sea. Both vessels partially submerge, transforming into marinas where yachts can safely float on under their own power and maneuver into position. After the yachts are secured, the ships de-ballast to have the yachts rest on secured cribbing, allowing for transportation of the yachts while they are effectively dry docked. The “float-on” process is then reversed for an equally safe and efficient “float-off” delivery at the desired destination.
DYT Yacht Transport, based in Fort Lauderdale, is partnered with Sevenstar Yacht Transport and provides alternative sailing options for a lift-on/lift-off service provided by Sevenstar’s fleet of over 120 ships wholly owned and operated by Amsterdam-based parent company Spliethoff Group. Sevenstar Yacht Transport moves yachts on a frequent basis and has flexible shipping dates to serve yacht transport needs worldwide.
Since 1987, DYT Yacht Transport has delivered over 13,200 motor and sailing yachts to various destinations around the globe.
